This regulation outlines the rules for proper wear and maintenance of the Army’s official uniforms, as well as the regulations for decorations, accessories, headgear, and footwear.

Uniforms

The Army’s official uniforms consist of the Army Combat Uniform (ACU), the Army Service Uniform (ASU), and the Army Dress Uniform (ADU). The ACU is the Army’s daily field uniform, and it is worn in garrison and in the field. The ASU is the Army’s dress uniform, and it is worn for formal occasions. The ADU is the Army’s ceremonial uniform, and it is worn for special occasions and for military funerals.

Decorations

Decorations are awards that are given to soldiers for outstanding service. The Army’s official decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Meritorious Service Medal. Decorations are worn on the left side of the uniform, and they are arranged in order of precedence.

Accessories

The Army’s official accessories include the belt, the belt buckle, the shoulder cords, the nameplate, the insignia, and the rank insignia. The belt and belt buckle are worn with the ACU and the ASU, and the shoulder cords, nameplate, insignia, and rank insignia are worn with the ASU and the ADU.

Headgear

The Army’s official headgear is the Army Combat Helmet (ACH) and the Army Service Cap (ASC). The ACH is worn with the ACU, and the ASC is worn with the ASU and the ADU.

Footwear

The Army’s official footwear is the Army Combat Boot (ACB) and the Army Dress Shoe (ADS). The ACB is worn with the ACU, and the ADS is worn with the ASU and the ADU.
